What Mensa Offers
Mensa has no opinions and endorses none of those held by its members. Its purpose is to identify and foster human intelligence, to encourage research in the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence, and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.

Mensa provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members. Its activities includes the exchange of ideas by lectures, discussions, journals, special interest groups, and local, regional, national, and international gatherings; the investigations of members’ opinions and attitudes; and assistance to researchers inside and outside of Mensa.

Although Mensa holds no opinions, its members have many. The greatest thing Mensa has to offer is a meeting ground for its members to exchange, evaluate and discuss thoughts, ideas, opinions and theories - theirs and anyone else’s.

Special Interest Groups

If there is anything you are interested in, chances are Mensa has a SIG for it. From Aabsurd SIG, to Hell’s M’s SIG, to Scuba SIG and all the way to Zydecodependents SIG, there are over 140 SIGs now in existence within Mensa. If it’s not there, it can be formed. Check out the SIG listings included in American Mensa’s website for more on this.

Mensa Education and Research Foundation (MERF)

MERF could be considered the more serious side of Mensa. It is through this arm of Mensa that scholarships are awarded, a research journal published, and grants given out to educational research projects.

Local Groups

American Mensa is divided into 134 local groups. Groups vary in size from about 1600 members to as few as 20. Groups are determined mostly by geographic location and sustained by the willingness of volunteers on the local level. Our group has approximately 250 members.
